Autumn Durald Arkapaw Makes Oscar History As First Woman Of Color Nominated For Best Cinematography
Acclaimed cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw has made Oscar history, becoming the first woman of color to be nominated for Best Cinematography for her innovative work on ‘Sinners.’
In addition to the historic nomination, Arkapaw also broke new ground behind the camera, becoming the first female cinematographer to shoot a feature film using IMAX 65mm and Ultra Panavision, a technical achievement that helped define the film’s story.
Following her nomination, Arkapaw said, “To have other people, like young girls and boys see you out there, speaking about what you do and showing them that it matters, that’s been really fun. I’m honored that it’s happening with Ryan and for this particular film, and what this story is…that’s so special to me.”
Congratulations to Autumn Durald Arkapaw on this incredible achievement!
