Congratulations are in order for Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who will receive the 32nd Annual Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal from the American Film Institute (AFI) on April 18.
The Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal was established in 1991 by Schaffner’s widow to honor recipients for their extraordinary creative talent and artistic achievement. The medal is awarded annually to an alum of either the AFI Conservatory or AFI DWW+ who best embodies the qualities of the late director: talent, taste, dedication, and commitment to quality filmmaking.
Arkapaw, a 2009 AFI Conservatory alum, is being recognized for her innovative work on Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners,’ which earned her a historic Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography. She will be presented with the honor during the AFI Life Achievement Gala Tribute to Eddie Murphy at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
