‘Black Barbie: A Documentary’ Wins Two Daytime Emmy Awards For Outstanding Arts And Popular Culture Program And Outstanding Writing Team
Congratulations are in order for the entire creative team behind the acclaimed Netflix documentary ‘Black Barbie: A Documentary.’ The film took home two Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Arts and Popular Culture Program and Outstanding Writing Team for a Non-fiction Program at the 52nd Daytime Emmy Awards.
Creator and Director Lagueria Davis (@lagueriadavis) expressed her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “When I first started making @blackbarbiedoc, I couldn’t have imagined the 13-year journey it would take to get here—or the village it would require. What began as a conversation with my Aunt Beulah Mae about her work at Mattel became a movement—a story about legacy, imagination, and the power of being seen.”
The film and its creators continue to remind us of the power and importance of representing authentic Black stories on screen, and this win is incredibly well-deserved in honor of that truth.
