Colman Domingo is officially joining the world of Oz. The Tony-nominated actor has been confirmed as the voice of the Cowardly Lion in Wicked: For Good, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2024 blockbuster Wicked. The announcement came via the film’s official social media, featuring a video of Domingo surrounded by plush versions of the iconic character.
Fans may remember a young version of the Lion appearing in the first film as the cub rescued by Elphaba and Fiyero. In this follow-up, he’ll take his place alongside the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and Dorothy Gale.
Director Jon M. Chu revealed to Deadline that he personally reached out to Domingo through Instagram to voice the role. “It wasn’t a lot of lines, but I asked if he had time,” Chu said. “He just replied, ‘Why not? Let’s do it!’”
Wicked: For Good continues the story as Elphaba, now known as the Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile while fighting for Oz’s oppressed Animals and working to expose the truth behind The Wizard.
The film is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.
