FX has officially greenlit a new Snowfall spinoff series, reuniting Gail Bean and Isaiah John as Wanda and Leon Simmons. The untitled project will premiere next year on FX and Hulu.
Set in early 1990s Los Angeles, the series picks up after the events of Snowfall and follows a recovering addict’s attempt to bring West Coast rap to the mainstream amid gang conflicts and the commercialization of hip-hop culture.
Created and executive produced by Malcolm Spellman (Hip Hop Uncovered), the show also stars Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III. Spellman is joined by Snowfall veterans Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson as executive producers, with FX Productions behind the project.
FX Entertainment President Nick Grad described the series as a fresh look at one of the most transformative periods in music history, highlighting Spellman’s deep understanding of hip-hop and praising Bean’s breakout performance alongside John and the ensemble cast.
The Snowfall spinoff is among several FX pilots developed this year, with others like Seven Sisters, Disinherited, Untitled Hannah Fidell, Very Young Frankenstein, and Movers still awaiting updates.
