Gabrielle Union Set To Lead Paranormal Psychological Thriller ‘Perdita’ From Megan Raney Aarons
Gabrielle Union is set to lead Perdita, a paranormal psychological thriller that marks the feature directorial debut of Megan Raney Aarons. Production is scheduled to begin this March in Ontario, Canada.
Inspired by Henry James’ short story The Romance of Certain Old Clothes, the film centers on Pearl, a remote island park ranger whose grip on reality begins to unravel after a disturbing supernatural encounter. After abruptly leaving her job and lover, Pearl inherits a neglected home in Detroit, pulling her into a mystery that threatens both her life and sanity as unseen forces close in.
The screenplay was written by Matthew Hurt, based on a story he developed with Aarons. The project is produced by GRAiNEY PICTURES and Inner Media Capital, with a seasoned team of executive producers and casting directors supporting the film.
Aarons describes Perdita as a personal and political story, weaving a 2009 narrative with echoes of the Civil Rights era, inspired by her family’s legacy of activism. She praised Union for bringing depth and humanity to the role.
Union continues a busy stretch with recent and upcoming projects across film, television, and animation, while Aarons builds momentum following acclaimed shorts and documentary work, with several high-profile projects on her slate.
