Nia Long And Larenz Tate Reunite For ‘Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite’-Inspired Romance For Netflix
That ‘90s love is still alive. Nia Long and Larenz Tate are set to reunite for a new romance drama at Netflix. The film, inspired by the Grammy Award-nominated album ‘Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite,’ is being written by Kay Oyegun and directed by Eugene Ashe.
When Maxwell (@maxwell) released his debut album in 1996, it quickly became a classic, ushering in a new sound of modern romance. Beautiful ballads serenaded the listener, ethereal falsettos induced emotional crescendos, and sweet melodies carried them through shifting feelings of love, loneliness, desire, and vulnerability. These new sounds also helped redefine cinematic portrayals of love, as seen in Long and Tate’s chemistry in ‘Love Jones’ (1997).
Now, nearly three decades later, Long and Tate are once again reunited through Maxwell’s music in this upcoming project. The film is being produced by James Lopez, Charles D. King, and Poppy Hank, with Maxwell, John D. Hammond, Long, and Tate serving as executive producers.
