Olive Nwosu's 'Lady' Wins World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award For Acting Ensemble At Sundance
LADY is a UK–Nigeria co-production starring Jessica Gabriel’s Ujah alongside Amanda Oruh, Tinuade Jemiseye, and Seun Kuti. Directed by Sundance Lab alumna Nwosu, the film draws from extensive, on-the-ground research within Nigeria’s sex worker community, offering an honest and rarely seen perspective. Its immersive feel is elevated by a vibrant soundtrack rooted in modern African jazz and dance music, with a cast made up largely of local talent.
The project was developed with Film4 and backed by the BFI through National Lottery funding, alongside support from Screen Scotland, Level Forward, and Amplify Capital. Produced by Ossian International, Good Gate, and Stella Nwimo, with co-producers from Lagos-based Emperium Films, LADY stands as a powerful collaboration brought to life by a dedicated international team committed to telling the story with care and authenticity.
