Omar Epps, Wiz Khalifa, Quavo, And Chukwudi Iwuji Lead ‘Moses the Black’ Produced By 50 Cent; Film Heads To AFM With Stoic
Stoic has secured worldwide sales rights for Moses the Black, a new gangland crime drama starring Omar Epps (Power Book III: Raising Kanan), Wiz Khalifa, Quavo, and Chukwudi Iwuji (The Day of the Jackal). Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television, the film draws inspiration from the repentance story of the fifth-century saint of the same name.
Set in modern-day Chicago, the story follows Malik (Epps), a powerful gang leader whose life mirrors the spiritual journey of St. Moses the Black, portrayed by Iwuji. Wiz Khalifa takes on the role of 2wo-3ree, Malik’s ambitious and unpredictable protégé, while Quavo plays Straw, his deadly rival. The film recently wrapped production in Chicago.
Written and directed by Yelena Popovic (Man of God), Moses the Black is produced by Popovic and Alexandros Potter under Simeon Faith, with financing from the Nick Mirkopoulos Cinematic Fund and backing from the former owners of Cinespace Film Studios. Khalifa executive produces via Taylor Gang Films, while Epps also joins as executive producer through his company, BrooklynWorks Films.
Stoic will debut the film’s first-look footage at the American Film Market, where it’s expected to draw strong attention. “We’re thrilled to present this powerful, star-driven film that unites acclaimed actors and global music stars in a story that will resonate with audiences worldwide,” said Stoic’s Nat McCormick.
The company’s upcoming slate also includes Carousel starring Chris Pine and Jenny Slate, The Midnight Pool with Aaron Paul, and Miami Nights featuring Terrence Howard and Jeremy Piven.
