Although Coogler did not win, he was presented with the DGA nominees medallion for Outstanding Directorial Achievement by Michael B. Jordan and used his time to speak on the importance of healthcare through the union, citing his son being ill but doing better as well as speaking on the current "domestic carnage at the hands of our government."
