Searchlight Wins Rights To A.C. Robinson Short Story 'Grand Rising;' Lena Waithe Adapting Script With Steven Caple Jr. Directing
Searchlight Pictures has landed the rights to Grand Rising, a short story by A.C. Robinson, marking the first major package sale of the year.
The psychological horror-thriller will be adapted by Emmy winner Lena Waithe, with Steven Caple Jr. set to direct. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps.
Waithe will produce through Hillman Grad alongside Caple Jr.’s Grey Skies Pictures and Scott Glassgold’s 12:01 Films. Searchlight executives Rayne Roberts and Cameron Chidsey are overseeing the project.
Robinson, whose debut novel Hardly Strangers helped establish her as a rising literary voice, has also expanded Grand Rising into a novel. The book is set to be released via Simon & Schuster’s Atria imprint under 12:01 Books.
