Today marks the 29th anniversary of F. Gary Gray’s culture-defining film, ‘Set It Off.’
Centering a story about friendship, survival, love, loss, and resistance within the carceral state, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, and Kimberly Elise gave us some of the most heartfelt and endearing performances that catapulted the film to icon status.
Upon its release, ‘Set It Off’ was a box office hit, grossing $8.8 million on its opening weekend and debuting at number one on its first day in theaters. Decades later, the film continues to resonate with fans, proving that it remains a classic and timeless movie.
