Arie and Chuko Esiri’s ‘Clarissa,’ which is a reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s classic novel ‘Mrs. Dalloway’ is a star-studded affair. Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, Ayo Edebiri, India Amarteifio, and Toheeb Jimoh star in a story that chronicles a single day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a high-society woman, as she prepares to host a party.
The logline reads, “Clarissa (Okonedo) prepares to host a party at her home in Lagos, where she will unexpectedly encounter once-intimate friends from her youth. As the group reflects on their shared past over the course of a single night, memories of their intricate relationships, passionate love, hidden desires, and lost aspirations give rise to a bittersweet reckoning.”
‘Clarissa’ is written by Chuko Esiri. Producers include Arie Esiri; Theresa Park for Per Capita Productions; and Nicholas Weinstock for Invention Studios. Co-producers include Nina Gold and Thomas Bassett, with Okonedo, Dolly Omodolapo Kola-Balogun, Osahon Okunbo, and Jason Reif serving as executive producers. Production financing was provided entirely by the Africa-based Afreximbank Creative Africa Nexus and MBO Capital. Neon has acquired worldwide rights to the film.
