Terry Crews And Jermaine Harris To Lead Dramedy ‘Inauguration Day’; Sabrina Lassegue, Lexi Underwood, Tim Johnson Jr., Israel Johnson, Victoria Ogbonna, And Tevin Johnson Among Cast
“Yes We Can.” This rallying cry sits at the center of Sundance alum Sterling Hampton IV’s directorial debut, the coming-of-age dramedy ‘Inauguration Day’ set at a high school on the day of President Barack Obama’s historic January 20, 2009 inauguration and inspired by Hampton’s own experiences as a student at a predominantly white school.
Jermaine Harris and Terry Crews lead the story, which follows a high school student named Frederick (Harris) attending a predominantly white school when he finds himself caught in the middle of a well-meaning inaugural celebration that spirals into chaos when students clash and alliances shift. As the day unfolds and tensions rise, Frederick must navigate questions of identity, belonging, and assimilation while his boisterous dad, Anthony (Crews), steps in and turns up the heat on the situation.
‘Inauguration Day’ is written by Sabrina Lassegue, who also stars in the film. The ensemble cast includes Bart Johnson, Lexi Underwood, Tim Johnson Jr., Israel Johnson, and Victoria Ogbonna, with supporting roles from Tevin Johnson, Sean Lew, Karly Rothenberg, and Grace Wethor.
Will.i.am will executive produce the film. Hampton is co-producing via Clash of the Artistic Minds alongside Lassegue’s Extinguished Youth. Producers also include Nina Childs and Daniel Sollinger, while Tim Johnson Jr., Bart Johnson, and Harris are credited as associate producers.
