Thomas Kent “T.K.” Carter, actor and comedian best known for his work in The Thing and Punky Brewster, has passed away at the age of 69.
Carter was found deceased at his home in Duarte, California, on Friday. Authorities responded after a 9-1-1 call was placed that evening. While an official cause of death has not been released, investigators have indicated that no foul play is suspected.
Born on December 18, 1956, in New York City, Carter was raised in the Los Angeles area, where he discovered his passion for comedy early. He began performing stand-up at just 12 years old and later became a regular presence at legendary venues such as the Comedy Store.
He made a lasting impression as Nauls, the rollerskating chef in John Carpenter’s 1982 cult classic The Thing, and as Mike Fulton during the first two seasons of Punky Brewster. His television career spanned decades, with appearances on series including Good Times, The Jeffersons, 227, Family Matters, Moesha, The Steve Harvey Show, The Nanny, and The Sinbad Show, among many others. Carter also lent his voice to animated favorites like The Transformers and Jem.
On the film side, his credits included Southern Comfort, Doctor Detroit, Ski Patrol, Space Jam, and My Favorite Martian, showcasing his range across comedy, action, and family entertainment. Carter leaves behind a legacy defined by longevity, versatility, and a deep impact on film and television.
