Will Smith has released his latest documentary project, Pole to Pole with Will Smith, a seven-part docuseries that premiered January 13 on National Geographic and began streaming January 14 on Disney+ and Hulu. The series follows Smith on a 100-day journey across all seven continents, from Antarctica to the Arctic, positioning the actor and producer at the center of a global exploration.
The project marks Smith’s third collaboration with National Geographic, following One Strange Rock and Welcome to Earth. Those earlier series established Smith as an on-screen guide engaging with scientists, explorers, and researchers, and Pole to Pole appears to build on that approach by placing him in some of the world’s most extreme environments.
Based on released materials and production descriptions, the docuseries blends environmental storytelling with personal reflection, spotlighting ecosystems, communities, and scientific efforts across the globe. Smith is shown participating in hands-on experiences alongside experts, with the series emphasizing discovery and observation rather than a traditional travel format.
The series arrives as part of Smith’s continued expansion into nonfiction storytelling. In recent years, he has increasingly used documentary projects to explore science, nature, and global issues, shifting part of his creative focus beyond scripted film and television. The series stands as the latest entry in his growing slate of fact-based projects, reinforcing his interest in large-scale, purpose-driven storytelling.
